Common rail fuel pump repair & calibration
We test, rebuild and re-calibrate Bosch, Denso and Delphi common rail high-pressure fuel pumps for cars, pickups, trucks, generators and marine diesels — with the fault confirmed on the bench before any work is approved.
What a common rail fuel pump does — and why it fails
Understanding the system helps you spot problems early and avoid consequential engine damage.
A common rail fuel pump is the heart of a modern diesel fuel injection system. Unlike older mechanical pumps that deliver fuel directly to each injector in sequence, a common rail high-pressure pump continuously pressurises fuel — often to 1,600–2,200 bar — and stores it in a shared "rail," from which each injector draws fuel independently and precisely on demand.
This design is what gives modern diesel engines their smoother running, lower emissions and stronger fuel economy. It also means the pump has to work harder and hold tighter tolerances than a conventional pump — so when it starts to wear, the symptoms show up quickly: hard starting, rough idle, loss of power, or a fuel pressure warning light on the dashboard.
Most common rail pump failures in Doha's conditions trace back to fuel quality, water contamination, or fuel starvation from a clogged filter or failing lift pump — all of which accelerate wear on the internal plunger, barrel and metering valve. Left unaddressed, a failing high-pressure pump can send metal debris downstream and damage the rail and injectors as well, turning a moderate repair into a full fuel system replacement.
Signs your common rail pump needs attention
Catching these early usually means a repair rather than a full engine rebuild.
Hard or extended cranking
Slow pressure build-up before the engine catches is a classic early sign of pump wear.
Noticeable power loss
The pump can't maintain rail pressure under load, so acceleration and towing power drop off.
Rough idle & misfiring
Uneven fuel delivery to the rail shows up as vibration and inconsistent idle speed.
Fuel pressure warning light
A P0087 or similar low-rail-pressure fault code often points straight to the HP pump or IMV.
Whining or knocking noise
A worn drive shaft, cam ring or plunger assembly produces an audible mechanical noise under the hood.
Excessive black or white smoke
Incorrect fuelling from an unstable pump shows up in the exhaust — see our symptom guides for detail.
Fuel leaking from the pump body
Worn internal or external seals allow fuel to weep, which also risks starving the rail of pressure.
Metal particles in the fuel filter
Fine metal debris on a changed filter usually means internal pump wear is already underway.
Engine won't start at all
A seized plunger, sheared drive shaft or dead IMV can cut off high-pressure fuel delivery entirely.
From diagnosis to a re-calibrated, ready-to-fit pump
Every common rail pump goes through the same bench-tested workflow before it leaves our workshop.
Inspection & fault diagnosis
The pump is stripped and visually inspected for scoring, wear and contamination, and cross-checked against the reported symptoms and fault codes.
Bench testing
We confirm flow rate, internal leakage and pressure build-up on a dedicated common rail test bench, so you're only quoted for what's actually faulty.
Ultrasonic cleaning
Plunger, barrel, valves and housing are ultrasonically cleaned to remove varnish, debris and contamination build-up.
Component replacement
Worn plungers, metering valves, seals, o-rings and bearings are replaced with OEM-standard parts matched to your pump's exact specification.
Reassembly & calibration
The pump is rebuilt to factory tolerances and calibrated on the test bench across its full pressure and flow range.
Final test & fitment
A final bench run confirms stable rail pressure before the pump is refitted, road-tested and cleared for handover.
